A vibrantly figured Queen Anne flat top antique highboy, New Hampshire, Circa 1750-60.

This handsome Queen Anne antique highboy features richly grained tiger maple, excellent proportions and superb regional characteristics. It retains an excellent patina and fine honey color that emphasizes the superb tiger maple wood grain. The flared flat top has a broad molding that conceals a hidden bolection drawer. The upper case has two short drawers above three graduated drawers. Each drawer has a molded edge and retains wonderful Queen Anne brass hardware. The upper case sets into a broad molding above a base section with three short drawers. The flamboyantly shaped skirt with a central arch below a dramatic shallow central drawer is flanked by a pair of deep rounded drops. The skirt continues to shaped brackets and joins tall slender cabriole legs which terminate in a high pad foot with a pronounced disk or hoof. The interior drawer runners are marked in pencil by various owners, documenting a history of ownership in the town of Canterbury, New Hampshire. Figured maple is very desirable to collectors of antique furniture, but a Queen Anne antique highboy constructed of bold and dramatic tiger maple such as this, is the pinnacle of high style country furniture.
