A very rare antique Queen Anne walnut slipper chair, Boston, Massachusetts, Circa 1740

This rare diminutive form of an antique Queen Anne slipper chair was produced for use in the bed chamber. Early examples of antique slipper chairs are extremely scarce. The chair retains a wonderful historic surface with a rich patina. The form has a spooned back with a subtle yoke-form crest rail above a solid vase form back splat that joins a raised cleat. The shaped side stiles join the rear of the seat rail and continue to a blocked leg with a backswept foot. The trapezoidal tapered seat retains it original maple seat frame. The seat rests above short cabriole legs with shaped returns and bold pad feet. The feet are joined with block and turned cross stretchers.
