A very fine French figural gilded bronze shelf clock, circa 1820.
This wonderful sculptural clock is cast in bronze that is gilded. The detailed figural form depicts a 15-16th Century nobleman posed in a peaceful allegory, his hand off of his sword hilt and as he has set the articles of war and office aside. Below is an elaborate scrolled frieze with a bust of a female noblewoman at center. This is likely a depiction of King Ferdinand II and Queen Isabella of Spain. A console form pediment rests on the top and houses a French time and strike movement with a silk suspension and an enamel dial. The clock case rests on an detailed Rococo base with scrolled feet and elaborate apron. The clock has a fine color and condition to the surface and the works are in excellent running condition. The clock is accompanied by an ebonized wood base and glass dome
