A very fine antique Federal mahogany tall case clock by Aaron Willard, Boston, circa 1815. The case attributed to his cabinetmaker son Henry Willard.

This perfectly proportioned Federal grandfather clock has a terrific figured mahogany and cross banded-case with a vibrant dial in immaculate condition. The case is attributed to Aaron's son, cabinetmaker Henry Willard [1802-87]. The wonderfully clean form with precise mahogany selections and a finely delicate fretwork are typical of his work. The case also bears his construction techniques including a marking system for the various components, comprised of production die stamps. The vivid dial has a moon phase disk and crisply decorated spandrels with gilt backgrounds and ovals with starburst. The pendulum door and base have mahogany panels with rare “plumb pudding” grain. The clock rests on neat French feet with a shaped apron.
