A handsome inlaid Hepplewhite mahogany antique tall case clock with figural inlaid panels, circa 1815.
This stately tall case clock epitomizes the fine examples produced in the Hepplewhite style in Federal America. The first quality mahogany veneers are accentuated with lightwood string inlay and decorated fine pattern inlays. The arched top has line inlay pilasters above a cross-banded dial door. The vibrantly painted dial have large polychrome corner fans. The shaped pendulum door has a large blossom inlay which is commonly referred to as an “Irish” panel. The door is flanked with quarter columns that are inlaid to emulate carved fluting. The panel below the door has an oval inlay around a conch shell and the base has a large circular inlay on delicate French feet.
