Griffith Owen Bracket Clock (Philadelphia, PA)
This handsome antique bracket clock was produced by the rare clockmaker Griffith Owen of Philadelphia (active circa 1790-1811). Only three other antique bracket clocks are known to be produced by Griffith Owen. The case houses an eight-day brass double fusee movement which is distinctly American. It also features a rare dead beat escapement and a Boston-made painted iron dial attributed to Nolan and Curtis of Boston and Philadelphia. The case style and construction, together with the American characteristics of the movement, strongly indicate that this clock is an exceedingly rare American-made bracket clock.
