A fine Chippendale carved mahogany wing back easy chair, probably American, circa 1760-80.
This antique wing chair exhibits appealing proportions with boldly flared arms and tasteful fluted front legs. The antique wing chair has a high raised back typical of earlier examples from the mid-18th Century. The crest joins a pair of pronounced wings with scrolled fronts that form a pair of dramatically out-scrolled arms. The arms have beautifully executed cylindrical supports that flare and taper as they join the seat rail. The over-upholstered seat rests on four rectangular legs with flat cross stretchers. The front legs have stop fluted carving and the rear legs have a gentle reverse rake.
Dimensions: Height 47 ¼””; Width at base 28”, at arms 38” Depth 26 ¼”.
