A monumental carved and molded Chippendale corner cupboard, circa 1760-80.

This exceptional carved white pine cabinet has fantastic proportions and scale with wonderfully carved details. The large scale and dramatic details, combined with a fine color and patina set this cupboard apart from the rest. The cupboard emulates an architectural archway with a bold cornice, comprised of a broad cove molding above a frieze of geometric match-stick form blind fretwork. This cornice steps forward at each side above flat pilasters and at the center above a scrolled keystone. The pilasters have reed and chip carving and a dentil molding. The pilasters continue down the sides where they are stop fluted. The glazed cabinet doors are framed by a broad dentil molded border and have shaped mullions. The interior has four shaped shelves, including an upper quarter round vase shelf. The base section has a pair of locking, paneled cupboard doors and a single large shelf. The cupboard has a pleasing cherry color and a warm patina.
