Chippendale style shell carved chest (Colchester, CT)
A fine carved cherry Chippendale style three drawer chest expertly crafted in the manner of the Colchester cabinetmakers of Connecticut, 20th Century.
This attractive chest is a reproduction of desirable "Colchester" chests produced in Connecticut during the last quarter of the 18th Century. The carved cherry chest is the highest of the form with blocked fronts topped with three well developed shells and four cabriole legs on ball and claw feet. The knee returns are nicely shaped and feature detail molding. The chest was likely produced in the early 20th Century by a master and accurately portrays an original example in proportion, construction and materials.
