This attractive high chest has excellent proportions and layout. This piece, which is commonly referred to as a highboy, has history of ownership in Southeastern Rhode Island. The upper case of five graduated drawers has a flared molding that enhances the sense of verticality. The base has a stepped molding and one long drawer over three short drawers. Each drawer has a thumb-nail molding and period brass hardware. The chest has a graceful serpentine apron with a lobbed center and drop. The apron join cabriole legs with conforming returns, all on pronounced pad feet. The chest survives in wonderful condition with a pleasing cherry surface.
