This attractive antique walnut tall clock was produced by the successful Maryland clockmaker John Fessler, Senior [1760-1820]. He was born in Switzerland and emigrated with his family as an infant to Pennsylvania. He received his training as a clockmaker in Lancaster, Pennsylvania where he also mustered in the Continental army. At the conclusion of the revolution he settled in Fredericktown, Maryland. His career spanned several decades and also included a partnership with is son John Junior, as John Fessler and Son. His clocks feature high quality cases with regional style, fitted with first rate clock movements and attractive dials.
