This attractive antique Sheraton card table (or games table) has a serpentine shaped and figured mahogany top with outset corners. Antique American Federal card tables such as this are versatile elements in today’s decorating schemes. They are often used as serving tables in a dining room, or as side tables in a living room setting. The top flips over and is supported by a rear swing leg to form a playing surface. The apron is veneered with richly grained mahogany panels, flanking a lighter flame birch central panel, framed with mahogany cross banding. The mahogany legs have ring turned turret tops above reeded balusters and vase form turned feet. The card table has a partially legible chalk inscription on the underside that appears to indicate a cabinetmaker’s or owner’s name and a locale of Nashua, New Hampshire.
